Paula Doepfner Who among them do they think could bury you, III (III) Ink on Gampi paper 50 × 43 cm | 20 × 17 in Framed: 56.4 × 49.4 cm | 22 × 19 ½ in
Paula Doepfner's drawings consist of minute text on transparent paper. She uses tiny letters (Ø 1 mm) to write lines that become textual images. The drawings seem abstract but are based on sketches made while observing brain surgery and autopsies at the Charité Berlin. They are alienated nerve cells and areas of the brain. The lines of text in the drawing "Who among them do they think could bury you" are taken from medical reports and the poem Engführung (Engl. Stretto) by Paul Celan.
